The SBA is The U.S. Small Business Administration responsible for providing support to the nation’s small businesses in the form of counseling, business loans, awarding contracts, and business tools and resources.

The SBA offers several unique resources for small business owners such as access to local Small Business Development Centers or SBDC’s.

These centers provide technical assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.

This assistance includes no cost, extensive, one-on-one, long-term professional business advising, and low-cost training. 1
The SBA also connects aspiring entrepreneurs to a team of small business counselors with SCORE a nonprofit association comprised of 13,000+ volunteer business counselors throughout the U.S. and its territories. SCORE members are trained to serve as counselors, advisors, and mentors. These services are offered at no fee, as a community service.1

Another key aspect of the SBA are the Women’s Business Centers (WBC). The Women’s Business Centers represent a national network of nearly 100 educational centers designed to assist women start and grow small businesses.

WBC’s operate with the mission to “level the playing field” for women entrepreneurs, who still face unique obstacles in the world of business.1

The SBA also provides resources for Veterans through the Veterans Business Outreach Program (VBOP) which is designed to provide entrepreneurial development services such as business training, counseling, mentoring, and referrals for eligible veterans owning or considering a starting a small business.1
